Phoebe Waller-Bridge Signs Overall Deal with Amazon Studios

Fleabag may have ended, but Phoebe Waller-Bridge will be telling more stories at Amazon.

Waller-Bridge just signed an overall deal with Amazon Studios, THR reports. The “big” contract, the exact terms of which were not disclosed, means that the Fleabag mastermind will create more projects for Amazon’s streaming platform, Prime Video.

This week is going well for Waller Bridge, who may as well have had a seat onstage at the Emmys on Sunday, winning awards for Lead Actress in a Comedy Series and Writing for a Comedy Series (full results here). Fleabag won the award for Outstanding Comedy Series, while Harry Bradbeer won Best Directing for Comedy.

This deal is obviously making executives at Amazon Studios very happy. “We are thrilled to be continuing our partnership with Phoebe,” said studio head Jennifer Salke in a statement, per THR. “She is clever, brilliant, generous and a virtuoso on multiple fronts including writing, acting, and producing.”

In addition to creating Fleabag, Waller-Bridge also created and executive produces BBC America’s Killing Eve, which also had a successful Emmys. Jodie Comer won for Lead Actress in a Drama Series, while Sandra Oh was up for the same award for the show.

“I’m insanely excited to be continuing my relationship with Amazon,” Waller-Bridge said. “Working with the team on Fleabag was the creative partnership dreams are made of. It really feels like home. I can’t wait to get going!” She also recently did a rewrite of the script for No Time to Die, the forthcoming 25th James Bond movie, so it will be interesting to see if she segues into features (we know we’re not getting another season, but a Fleabag movie, maybe??) next. No matter what type of project Waller-Bridge has in mind, we hope she keeps writing complex characters with the same attitudes she discussed with Paste back in 2016, and stays away from guinea pigs.
