Apple Details iPhone 11, Plus Pro and Pro Max Versions

Apple made its usual slew of announcements on Tuesday, taking the stage at the Steve Jobs Theater in Cupertino, Calif., to wheel out the latest editions of the iPad, Apple Watch and iPhone, as well as to reveal new details of their Apple TV+ and Apple Arcade platforms.

As was widely rumored prior to their announcement, the company’s latest line of iPhones features three iterations: the iPhone 11 ($699), the iPhone 11 Pro ($999) and the iPhone 11 Pro Max ($1,099). All three phones will be available for preorder starting at 8 a.m. ET on Friday, Sept. 13, ahead of their Sept. 20 release.

The iPhone 11 features a 6.1-inch LCD display, with an A13 Bionic chip and a dual-camera system, and comes in six finishes: purple, yellow, green, black, white and red. The battery lasts up to one hour longer than that of the 11’s predecessor, the iPhone XR.

The pricier Pro line iPhone 11s, meanwhile, boast new Super Retina XDR displays, a new triple-camera system that incorporates a telephoto lens, and high-quality video capabilities enabling users to record 4K footage at up to 60 fps (and 120 fps slo-mo). Their batteries can manage up to 18 hours of video playback, a leg up on the 11’s 17 hours—the 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max offer up to four and five more hours of battery life in a day than the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, respectively—and also feature improved durability, with Apple touting “the toughest glass ever in a smartphone,” as well as the phones’ water resistance. The iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max feature 5.8” and 6.5” OLED displays, respectively, and both phones come in four finishes: midnight green, silver, space gray and gold.

“iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max are the most powerful and advanced smartphones we have ever made. They are packed with sophisticated technology that pros can count on to get their work done, and for anyone who wants the very best device made, even if they are not a pro,” said Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, in a statement. “iPhone 11 Pro has the first triple-camera system in iPhone and is far and away the best camera we’ve ever made. It provides our customers with great range of creative control, and advanced photo and video editing features in iOS 13. The Super Retina XDR is the brightest and most advanced display in iPhone and the A13 Bionic chip sets a new bar for smartphone performance and power efficiency.”
