Sanders to Trump: “I Am a Proud Jewish Person, and I Have No Concerns about Voting Democratic.”

“I think any Jewish people that vote for a Democrat-I think it shows either a total lack of knowledge, or great disloyalty,” said President Donald Trump to reporters at a recent press conference following Israel’s decision to ban Democratic representatives Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar. The country’s decision to bar the two congressional representatives from visiting the Middle Eastern nation was apparently a response to their criticism of Israel in regard to their conflict with Palestine.

Jewish groups on the left shot down Trump’s “disloyalty” comments, saying that the President is using anti-Semetic tropes to garner right-leaning Jewish support—the trope that Jewish citizens of the U.S. share a “dual loyalty” with American and Israel.

Democratic Senator Bernie Sanders, who is currently running to be the next President in the 2020 election, was also vocal about his condemnation of Trump’s comments. “I am a proud Jewish person, and I have no concerns about voting Democratic,” Sanders said at a rally in Iowa last night.

“And in fact, I intend to vote for a Jewish man to become the next president of the United States,” Sanders concluded.
