Since leaving Atlanta for New York, Shalewa Sharpe has chatted with Chadwick Boseman on The Tonight Show, killed on Comedy Central’s The New Negroes, and popped up on HBO’s 2 Dope Queens. She’s doing well. In a few weeks, she should be doing even beter.
Sharpe is pretty much going to own August with her new stand-up album, So You Just Out Here?. The new record will be out on August 19 on Little Lamb Recordings, and true to the album’s title (which is Sharpe’s personal mantra of confidence), she doesn’t shirk from the spotlight. Sharpe’s proudly defiant view of modern life is hard to ignore, as you can hear for yourself in the track “Sage Wisdom.” The press release for the new record calls it an “uplifting antidote to the realities of America in 2019,” and from what we’ve heard, we have to agree. Listen to that below, follow Sharpe on follow Sharpe on Twitter, and if you feel inclined, you can preorder her album here.
