Watch Boy Scouts Celebrate Birthdays in New Video "Expiration Date"

Oakland indie-folk outfit Boy Scouts have shared the second single from their new album Free Company, out on Aug. 30 via ANTI- Records. “Expiration Date” follows the release of previous single “Get Well Soon.”

In an accompanying music video directed by Madeline Kenney, Boy Scouts vocalist Taylor Vick celebrates her birthday with the help of producer Stephen Steinbrink, who also contributed harmony vocals to the song.

On “Expiration Date,” Vick’s soft warble is as trustworthy as lead vocals come, and the pirouetting guitar riff makes it the perfect song for a summer daze. The song captures the transient nature of life, which is so often a double-edged sword. “Everything great has an expiration date,” she sings with grace and attentiveness.

“Everything changes all the time. Nothing will last forever,” Vick says. “It’s such a hard concept to grasp because we just get so attached to things and people and situations. But stuff can’t stay how it is forever. That’s also to be said about bad stuff that happens. It won’t weigh you down forever.”
