Sleater-Kinney Finally Release Details for Forthcoming Album The Center Won't Hold

Fresh from releasing their comeback single three weeks ago, indie-rock provocateurs Sleater-Kinney have returned to fill in the blanks on their forthcoming record, The Center Won’t Hold.

Set to arrive Aug. 16 via Mom + Pop, the band’s ninth studio album was produced by St. Vincent and features the band stretching into different, more experimental sonic territory.

Vocalist and guitarist Carrie Brownstein noted that album has overarching themes of the personal and the political and focuses “about the person—ourselves or versions of ourselves or iterations of depression or loneliness—in the middle of the chaos.”

The Center Won’t Hold drops you into the world of catastrophe that touches on the election,” vocalist and guitarist Corin Tucker said in a statement. “And almost like a mission statement, at the end of that song, it’s like the band is finding its way out of that space by becoming a rock band.”

The announcement comes along with a new cut from the album, a seething, apocalyptic single titled “The Future is Here.” You can check out the band’s new single below.

The band recently announced an expansive tour throughout North America in October and have just announced dates in Europe. You can find the upcoming tour dates (new dates in bold) and the The Center Won’t Hold tracklist and artwork below.
