Released by the same studio that brought the world Marley & Me, a new dog-centered film featuring This Is Us star Milo Ventimiglia and Mamma Mia!’s Amanda Seyfried will be gracing theaters in late summer.
Told through the thoughts of golden retriever Enzo (voiced by none other than Kevin Costner), the 20th Century Fox film follows the life of race car driver Denny (Ventimiglia) and his wife Eve (Seyfried).
Ventimiglia, Seyfried and Costner are supported by the likes of Gary Cole, Kathy Baker, Martin Donovan and Ryan Kiera Armstrong—even Patrick Dempsey has a producing credit.
Giving the same touchy-feely vibes of Marley & Me, the film, which is based off the best-selling 2008 novel of the same name by Garth Stein, seems to be a rollercoaster of emotions, from the moment Enzo is a puppy to future years when he’s in his old age. They say that a dog is a man’s best friend and it seems this film, and its source material, are a testament to that mindset.
“Call it fate, call it luck. All I knew was I was meant to be his dog,” Enzo says in the trailer.
Written by Mark Bomback and directed by My Week with Marilyn’s Simon Curtis, The Art of Racing in the Rain is set to release in theaters on Aug. 9.
