Mr Twin Sister Share "Tops and Bottoms," Announce New Album Salt

Mr Twin Sister have shared “Tops and Bottoms,” the first single off their forthcoming third album Salt, out Oct. 25 through Twin Group. Salt is the band’s first new album in four years, following their 2014 critically acclaimed self-titled release.

Salt is both the name of the album and the name of the marionette featured on its cover—Salt, the marionette, was created by lead singer Andrea Estella. The album is an examination of “hopelessness, isolation, missed connections, loss of self, insolvency, the surveillance state, American consumerism, body image, gender variance, porn and secular spirituality,” according to a press release.

“Tops and Bottoms” lives in a world of voyeurism and objectification. It twists the electronic and dance influences of the band’s previous album into uncomfortable, shifting grooves and modulating vocals from Estella. “End up wearing the same old top and bottoms / there are some men I don’t want lookin’ at my bottom / the same, same old top and bottoms,” she sings, squeezing up against the walls of the song in either desperation or disgust.

The band will be touring through the rest of the year—find those dates further down.
