Writer-director Gillian Robespierre and comedian-actress Jenny Slate have reunited for another heartfelt indie film, Landline, with writer Elisabeth Holm. Set in Manhattan in 1995, a hilarious sister duo (Jenny Slate and Abby Quinn) discover their father (John Turturro) is having an affair while struggling with their own monumental life decisions.

The film was picked up by Amazon Studios after making a strong impression at Sundance earlier this year. Slate plays Dana, the older sister, recently engaged and questioning where she has positioned herself in life. At one point she tells her father, “I’m just trying to figure out if the life that I’ve picked for myself is even the one that I want.” Quinn plays her wild teenage sister Ali, who brings their father’s infidelity to light. The two find themselves bonding as they try to untangle their father’s secrets and realize the angst plaguing their entire family, including their mother Pat (Edie Falco).

Robespierre and Slate first found success together with 2014’s indie comedy Obvious Child. Landline premieres in select theaters July 21 and everywhere Aug. 4. Watch the first trailer above.
