Live Photos: Damn Straight Diet Cig’s Live Shows Are Always Worth Your Time

It takes a certain breed of badassery to execute a high kick so extreme that shoelaces and guitar tuning pegs intertwine, but Diet Cig’s electric frontwoman Alex Luciano guarantees a small nuclear reactor of slop-pop energy in every show—even if it leaves her hopping around the stage on one foot. Luciano and drummer Noah Bowman have embarked on a neverending tour marathon roughly since the release of their 2015 EP, Over Easy, graduating from DIY parties and basements to music halls and clubs. Debut LP Swear I’m Good At This confirms the duo’s knack for channeling disarming confessions about reckless youth into overdriven gems of delicious melody and bite. To celebrate their new album, Diet Cig played two back-to-back sold-out shows at Baby’s All Right in Brooklyn. Paste photographer Jeanette D. Moses caught up with Luciano and Bowman for some off-the-cuff portraits while also capturing the live show. Diet Cig is touring through the US through early June before heading to Europe in September. Check the video below for the group’s full performance at SXSW.
