was an enormous surprise upon its release in 2014, and its sequel looks to follow up on the original’s success. How, you might ask? Well, essentially, it involves Keanu Reeves shooting a lot of people. The first installment found success in a simple premise that was well-executed. After some Russian gangsters kill his dog and steal his car, John Wick kills all of them. Literally.
In the new trailer for John Wick: Chapter 2, we see every character Wick didn’t kill back in the action, including Ian McShane, John Leguizamo, Bridget Moynahan and Lance Reddick. Laurence Fishburne also joins the cast, reuniting Reeves with his Matrix co-star.
This time around, the action gets started after Wick refuses a contract. Wick’s refusal is apparently in violation of some assassin code, and so dozens of contract killers, including Common, Ruby Rose and Franco Nero, descend on Wick to take him out. At least this time they don’t kill his dog.
Behind the scenes, the team from the first film remains intact. Directors David Leitch and Chad Stahelski have returned, as has screenwriter Derek Kolstad. Leitch may have Deadpool 2 on the horizon, but he’s got this other ultra-violent action film first.
